(Education, experience and competencies)

 

Education and experience:

a) University degree in Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences or equivalent academic preparation and/or work experience.  b) Minimum 2 years experience in small business management including developing materials for business trainings. c) Experience in Project Management and structuring private sector partnerships arrangements with communities is an added advantage. d) Strong level of computer literacy.

 

 

Competencies:

a) Excellent interpersonal organizational, communication and teamwork skills. b) Strong analytical, planning, development and reporting skills. c) Personal commitments, efficiency, drive for results, creative thinking and adaptability. d) Ability to cooperate and coordinate with other units, implementing partners, NGOs and government departments. e) Capacity to work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues from various cultures and professional background. f) Strong strategic and creative thinker. g) Personal interest, commitment, efficiency, flexibility and willingness to work in difficult conditions, alone as well as part of a highly motivated team. h) Ability to work and act under pressure in a politically sensitive environment.

 

Languages:

Excellent oral and written communications skills of English are a prerequisite.

Position Title:                        Project Assistant

Under the direct supervision of the Early Recovery Officer and overall guidance of the Emergency and Reintegration Unit in Harare, the Project Assistant will be responsible for the implementation of income generating project for selected mobile and vulnerable populations in Bulawayo, Plumtree and Gweru.

 

In particular, he/she will be responsible for the following activities:

  1. Project design and implementation of income generating activities according to the approved Spanish proposal including beneficiary selection, private market linkages and capacity building of partner Vocational Training Centers (VTCs). 

  2. Develop and maintain close relations with partner organizations, VTCs and relevant government departments

  3. Conduct beneficiaries’ livelihood needs assessments including skills and training needs, data entry and analysis of information.

  4. Prepare and adjust training materials to suit the obtained training needs assessment per target group and project.

  5. Conduct trainings in small business management and backstop selected VTCs on issues relating to small business training

  6. Assess and design market linkages with appropriate private companies, and facilitate for linking beneficiaries and VTCs to corresponding private enterprises. 

  7. Monitor and evaluate project activities and ensure that proposed indicators are verified as well as analyze achieved results and lessons learnt. 

  8. In close coordination with IOM’s Finance Department, Emergency and Reintegration Unit Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, prepare all financial and narrative reports relating to the project.

  9. Perform such other duties as may be assigned
