Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Program Director and technical supervision of the Regional Migration Health Officer in Nairobi, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of IOM migration health activities in Zimbabwe in all three programme areas of MHD 1) Migration Health Assessment & Travel Health Assistance (H1), Health Promotion & Assistance for Migrants (H2), and Migration Health Assistance for Crisis Affected Populations (H3)

Desired qualifications:

(Education, experience and competencies):

 

Education and experience:

 University degree in Medicine with a post-graduate degree in Public Health, or with equivalent relevant work experience including project development and management experience. Minimum of eight years of professional experience in the domain of public health.   Work experience in migration health related issues, particularly in the context of emergency situations. Proven skills in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and establishing and maintaining working relations with government counterparts, UN agencies, NGOs and Donors.  Demonstrated ability and experience to supervise and direct staff and create team-oriented environment. Strong level of computer literacy.

 

Competencies:

Excellent communications skills, both written and oral, including the ability to prepare clear and concise reports.  Personal commitment, respect for diversity, sensitivity to gender issues and drive for results. Capacity to work effectively and harmoniously within a team and with colleagues from various cultures and professional background. Strong strategic and creative thinking. Personal interest, commitment, efficiency, flexibility and willingness to work in difficult areas/situations and under pressure.

 

Languages:

 Excellent oral and written communications skills of English are a prerequisite.

Position Title:                        Migration Health Programme Coordinator

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director and technical supervision of the Regional Migration Health Officer in Nairobi, the successful candidate will be responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of IOM migration health activities in Zimbabwe in all three programme areas of MHD 1) Migration Health Assessment & Travel Health Assistance (H1), Health Promotion & Assistance for Migrants (H2), and Migration Health Assistance for Crisis Affected Populations (H3)

 

In particular, s/he will:

 

1.      Advocate for migrants’ right to health with policy makers in the Zimbabwe Government and provide technical support to integrate migrant health in health and migration policies.


2.      Coordinate the Migration Health Unit (MHU) of IOM Zimbabwe, including training and direct supervision of MHU staff within IOM Harare office and sub offices; and maintain close liaison with MHD HQ, MRF Pretoria and other IOM missions in Southern Africa.


3.      Develop migration health project proposals targeting IOM’s beneficiary groups in Zimbabwe, in coordination with other units or programmes in IOM, external partners, government and donors.

4.      Implement and manage the Migration Health Programme within the IOM Mission, and integrate health within other IOM programmes where relevant, such as counter trafficking programmes, emergency assistance to internally displaced persons, AVR and resettlement programmes etc.


5.      Provide technical support to the mobile clinics and nurses’ station in the Beitbridge and Plumtree Support and Reception Centres targeting returned migrants.


6.      Establish and maintain partnerships with relevant UN, NGO and government focal points for health, GBV, and sexual and reproductive health programs in Zimbabwe.


7.      Strengthen the capacity of IOM implementing partners in the field of health and establish strong relations with them.


8.      Provide technical, administrative oversight and assist in strengthening the monitoring and quality assurance of on going IOM health research and assessments, monitoring and evaluation systems and related programmes in Zimbabwe. Ensure that all relevant data gathered through research activities in collaboration with partners are consolidated, analyzed and/or published as necessary.


9.      Act as gender focal point for the Mission, assuring that gender considerations are mainstreamed into IOM current programmes.


10.  Perform such other duties as may be assigned
