Candidates should have a first degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters degree in Engineering specializing in Hydraulics. Candidates should have a first degree in Environmental Science or Civil/Environmental Engineering and a Masters degree in Environmental Pollution related Science or Engineering. The successful candidate would be expected to teach at least two (2) of the following undergraduate courses: Environmental Pollution and Control; Solid and Hazardous Waste Engineering; and Water Quality and Management.


Post C: Urban Water Systems Engineering (1 Post)


Candidates should have a Science/Engineering first degree and a Masters degree in Urban Water Engineering, Process Engineering or any other equivalent. PhD holders will have a distinct advantage and shall be assisted with accommodation. The successful candidate would be expected to teach at least two (2) of the following undergraduate courses; Environmental Process Technology; Water Treatment Processes; Wastewater Treatment Processes; and Ecological Engineering.

Post D: Mining Engineering/Geology or Hydrogeochemistry (2 Posts)


Candidates should have a first degree and a Masters degree in Mining Engineering/ Hydrogeology /Geology / Hydrogeochemistry with emphasis on environmental aspects. PhD holders will have a distinct advantage and shall be assisted with accommodation. The successful candidate would be expected to teach at least two (2) of the following undergraduate courses: Soil and Water Remediation Technology; Mining and the Environment; Mine Ventilation Engineering; and Mine Closure and Reclamation.

Candidates should have a good first degree in Electronic/ Mechatronics Engineering/ Electrical Engineering and a Masters degree specializing in Instrumentation. PhD holders will have a distinct advantage and shall be assisted with accommodation. The successful applicant would be expected to teach at least two (2) of the following undergraduate courses; Instrumentation and Embedded Control; Electronic Instrumentation and Design; and Advanced Instrumentation and Calibration.

Post C: Fundamentals of Mechatronics Systems Design (2 Posts)


Candidates should have a first degree in Electronic/Mechatronics Engineering and a Masters degree in Automation or Robotics. PhD holders will have a distinct advantage and shall be assisted with accommodation. The successful candidate would be expected to teach at least two (2) of the following undergraduate courses: Fundamentals of Mechatronics Systems Design; Control Engineering; Intelligent Control; and Industrial Automation.

Post D: Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision (2 Posts)


Candidates should have a first degree in Electronic Engineering/Mechanical Engineering and a Masters degree in Machine Mechanisms/ Advanced Mechanical Engineering/Robotics or equivalent with a bias towards Robotics Technology. PhD holders will have a distinct advantage and shall be assisted with accommodation. The successful candidate would be expected to teach at least two (2) of the following undergraduate courses: Artificial Intelligence; Computer Vision; Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems; Real Time Systems; Autonomous Robotic Systems; and Simulation and Modelling.

1.4        Department of Fuels and Energy
1.4.1     Professor/Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer (6 Posts)

Post A: Heat Transfer and Mass Transfer (1 Post)


Candidates should have a first degree in Fuels/and Energy and a Masters degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering specializing in Heat Transfer and Mass Transfer. PhD holders will have a distinct advantage and shall be assisted with accommodation. The successful candidate would be expected to teach Heat Transfer and Mass Transfer at undergraduate level.

Post B: Energy Nanotechnology and Solar Energy Technology (1 Post)


Candidates should have a first degree in Fuels/and Energy and Masters Degree in applied Physics/Energy Nanotechnology specializing in Nanotechnology. PhD holders will have a distinct advantage and shall be assisted with accommodation. The successful candidate would be expected to teach the following undergraduate courses: Nanotechnology; and Solar Energy Nanotechnology.

The successful candidate should be competent to contribute towards the development of a major in Tropical Disease Biology and would be expected to teach at least two (2) of the following courses at undergraduate level: Diversity of Life; Parasites, Immunity and Control of Parasites; Animal Parasitology; Immunoparasitology; Animal Biology; Biology of Disease Vectors; and Epidemiology and Control of Parasitic Infections.

Post B: Microbiology (1 Post)


Candidates should have a first degree in Biology and a minimum of a Masters degree in Biology with relevant specialization. The successful candidate should be competent to contribute to the development of a major in Genetics and Molecular Biology and would be expected to teach at least two (2) of the following undergraduate courses: Genetics and Evolution; Molecular Genetics; Evolutionary Biology; Quantitative and Population Genetics; Control Mechanisms; Genomics, Proteomics and Bioinformatics.

Post E: Cell Biology (1 Post)


Candidates should have a first degree in Biology and a minimum of a Masters degree in Biology with relevant specialization. University Librarian


This position is offered on a four (4) year contract which is renewable subject to satisfactory performance to a versatile and innovative individual who has clear knowledge and expertise of running a 21st Century academic library using the latest information technologies to assist patrons with library and research services. The ideal candidate should possess the top ten Leadership Soft Skills namely communication, positivity, motivation, trustworthiness, responsibility, commitment, flexibility, creativity, self-control and critical thinking over and above the job specific hard skills. The librarian reports to the Vice-Chancellor and also takes directions from the University Senate.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Providing leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the library is aligned to the University's vision, mission and strategic objectives;
  • Acquiring and stocking the library with appropriate collection of hard copies, e-resources and other material that provide cutting-edge information requirements of students, staff and other patrons;
  • Putting in place programmes that help library patrons to locate, utilize and enjoy optimum use of library resources in a manner that adequately fuses a conventional and digital library (e-library) in response to the information needs of today's library users;
  • Managing, planning and performing the library's public relations, fundraising duties, as well as preparing the budget to ensure the library operates smoothly;
  • Formulating, developing and implementing appropriate library policies, programmes and procedures;
  • Building a high performance team out of library staff so that they competently strive to surpass the needs and expectations of users in a knowledge society, and to carry out such administrative functions as staffing, supervision, performance monitoring, development and training of library staff;
  • Managing and coordinating the Library's quality assurance portfolio;
  • Participating in the curriculum development process of the University in order to ensure that the curricula include a full range of literacy, inquiry and investigative skills necessary to meet content standards that develop lifelong readers and scholars;
  • Ensuring that all library staff keep up to date with current professional library practices, trends and developments which are typical of a library in a modern institution of higher learning;
  • serving on University Committees and liaising with internal and external clients and stakeholders.


Qualifications


The successful candidate must hold a minimum of a Master's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent.

Experience

At least five (5) years' relevant managerial experience preferably in a University environment, other tertiary institution of higher learning or research institution.
Evidence of research and publications in relevant disciplines and membership of a relevant professional association will be an added advantage.
