Sugar Milling

(proposed by the Industrial Development Coperation of Zimbabwe)

An opportunity exists to establish a sugar milling plant at Chisumbanje, an estate owned by the Government's Agricultural and Rural Development Authority with an approximate 45 000 hectares of arable land that could all be put under sugar cane production in the country's lowveld.

The project aims to initially develop 15 000 hectares of irrigated sugar cane which can later on be expanded to over 40 000 hectares in future. This will be processed through a sugar milling factory, a sugar refinery and ethanol plant at an estimated cost of US$220 million to produce approximately to 210 000 tonnes of sugar and 13.8 million litres of ethanol for the local and export market.

Sugar Milling

Zimbabwe has one of the best conditions for growing sugar in the world, with the twelve months growing cycle and high yields of more than 120 000 tonnes per hectare making it a competitive cost producer of sugar.

The project is currently at detailed feasibility stage  after which a bankable business plan will be in place  secure funding. IDC is therefore seeking for both technical and financial partners in this project with such a huge potential.
